A profound Sanskrit scholar, she was born in Kalpathi village in Palghat district on 6 September 1944. Her father T G Arunchalam was a chartered accountant from Britain and her mother was a renowned Sanskrit scholar in Kerala. Padma Sundaram's grandfather M K Venkteswara Iyer was conferred Dramapracharaka title by Kanchi Paramacharya Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Swamigal in 1918 for his proficiency in Sanskrit. He was a Sanskrit scholar besides an advocate. Padma Sundaram studied English literature in Lady Barabourne Universioty in Kolkata. She excelled in her studies and passed out in flying colours. She married Sundaram on 21 June 1970. Since then she had been a pillar of strength to him and assisted him in many journalistic works and helped him by doing research for over 5000 articles. She was an ardent devotee of Goddess Durga.

Mrs. Padma Sundaram was a nationalist to the core and a great inspiration for many people in the service of this Hindu nation.   She collected too many valuable and ancient books on different aspects of Hindu life. She was keen debater on contemporary issues and never allowed other miscreants to lead her life in to submissive behavior or tolerance of intolerant lifestyle, She lead her own destiny and her family and Hindus through courage, self-esteem and  tactics. Mrs. Padma Sundaram was a valuable storehouse of information, knowledge for constructing or renovating the foundation of Hindutva. Her demise is a great loss for the Hindu Samaj.

Mrs. Padma Sundaram and Mrs. V.Sundaram were in close association with the activities of Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti. Both have actively participated in the Dharma Jagruti Sabhas held in Chennai with Mr. Sundaram as the Speaker in 2 of the Sabhas. Sanatan Sanstha and Hindu Janajagruti Samiti shares the grief of Sri.V.Sundaram and extends its heartfelt condolences to his family.
