The question of existence of Ganga River turned out to be an intimate topic of Devout Hindus !
Ramnathi, Ponda (Goa) : Presently, the question of River Ganga’s existence has become more serious than the pollution. Around 300 projects are going to come up on her banks in the 50 Kilometres area and her water will be channeled through the tunnels. Consequently, a time will come after 50-60 years when she will be a river of the past. Now Hindus must firmly warn the Government that ‘River Ganga is our Mother’ and not just ‘akin to a Mother’. This was stated by Mr. Ashwini Kumar Shrungu while speaking on the subject ‘Purification of River Ganga and her existence.’
When ‘UNESCO” has declared River Ganga as ‘World Heritage’, how can permissions be given to these culture destroying projects ? The Geological and Mines as well as Environmental and Forest departments are responsible for this proposed destruction of River Ganga. If She is also going to vanish like River Saraswati, what will happen to the nearby pilgrim centres ? What will happen to thousands of Holy Kundas (Places in the river where devotees take Holy dips) ? What will happen to the seekers who go there for spiritual practice ? This is happening because today’s politicians consider Ganga River a mere source of water. She should not be considered only an object but should be looked upon as reservoir of Chaitanya (Divine Consciousness). It is the duty of every Hindu to fight for the existence of River Ganga; because, every Hindu is a child of River Ganga. We must give an ultimatum to the Government that we want River Ganga in the same way as She existed thousands of years ago
