Janata Party leader Subramanian Swamy today demanded that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh raise the issue of large scale infiltration and illegal migration of Bangladesh citizen into India during his on-going two-day visit to the neighbouring nation.
I demand that the Prime Minister raise the issue of large scale infiltration and illegal migration of Bangladeshi citizens into India. Estimates place the number of Bangladeshis in India today at 1/3rd of the total population of Bangladesh, Dr Swamy said in a statement.
He alleged that Bangladesh has also seen religious cleansing of the Hindus who were 32 per cent of the population in 1947 when Bangladesh was known as East Pakistan. Dr Swamy, former Union Law and Justice Minister, claimed that today the Hindu population has declined to just five per cent in Bangladesh due to atrocities, conversion and murders .
